ScratchBrain: Logic Reasoning by Visual Programming (4th ~ 8th grade)
Scratch is a computer programming language that makes it fun and easy to design and create interactive stories, games, and animations – and share their creations on the web. It provides an environment that lends itself to “tinkering.” The drag and drop nature of blocks moves the focus away from messy syntax and allows for making modifications quickly. By learning Scratch, students will be ahead of others in developing their math, spatial orientation, audio-visual synchronization and pattern recognition skills. This is a valuable lesson to take which can benefit students in the years to come. Scratch was created in 2003 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s The Life Long Kindergarten Group in MIT’s Media Lab. With education in mind, Scratch was designed for students, ages 8-16, but may be used by younger children with help from parents or teachers. Students of all ages can benefit from the program’s use of critical thinking skills to reason, create, and problem solve to design their own animation projects within the program. Programming is one of the creative processes that can transform ideas into reality. The intention of this program is to highlight what can be created by using programming as a tool. Students will create projects that reflect the diversity of interests in the classroom and that are personal to individual students.

Session II: 7/1/13~7/11/13(7/4 no class)(Mon.~Thu. 10:00 AM ~ 5:30 PM, total 42 hours)
For students: 4th~8th grade
Notes: Student needs to provide own laptop computer
金頭腦體操班(編程入門班)
傳授由麻省理工學院(MIT)研發的視覺編程軟體Scratch，來提高邏輯思考、系統推理、創意思維、協同合作的能力。Scratch使用類似積木和塗鴉的精髓，拓展創造及學習的範圍，並開發重要的數學和計算知識。上課以發展互動故事為主軸，配以動畫、語音、影像、色彩，讓青少年獲得如導演或編劇般的滿足感。本課程也是學習進階編程語言(如C++, Java, Ruby…等)的暖身課程。
上課時間：
東區Walnut教室:
第一期: 6/17/13~6/27/13(週一至四) 上午10:00~下午5:30 (共48小時)
第二期: 7/1/13~7/11/13 (週一至四) 上午10:00~下午5:30 (共42小時，7/4 國定假日休息一天)
招生對象：4~8年級
特別說明：學生需自備手提電腦
