AP Computer science A
This is a 30-week program preparing students to take College Board AP-Computer Science A exam. Students will learn fundamental Java coding concepts and practice their skills through project-based learning during the first 22 weeks. Topics include: Java syntax, logical expression, data type, Java class library, program flow control, object-oriented programming(OOP) and design pattern, recursive algorithm, Java data structure, sorting, searching and merging algorithm. Before winter break, students will embark with mobile app development curriculum and collaborate to create original solutions to problems of their own choosing by designing and implementing user interfaces and Web-based databases. The course curriculum is a College Board-approved implementation of AP CS A. Students will also work on test preparation through in-depth review of test coverage by weekly simulated tests to project their capability in passing AP CS exam.
The value of learning Java and passing AP CS exam in high school level is enormous. Not only can students demonstrate their technological skills when applying for colleges, mastering of AP CS subjects will provide tangible benefits in students’ college stage, including head start in Computer and Engineering fields and financial saving for waiving the entry level college programming courses (or receiving college credits).
