Love playing computer games? Wonder how the games are made? Want to apply your mathematical and logic reasoning skills in a playful and practical way? If you are interested in making a game of your own, here is where you should get started.
This is a hands-on Computer Science class designed for 7th+ grade students looking for a fun, easy-to-learn, graphical programming environment. The class uses the Visual Basic language which has an English-like, forgiving syntax. Visual Basic is also known to have similar language construct with Java which makes learning Java later on an easy task. We will use the free Microsoft Visual Basic 2012 Express development environment, which has a drag-and-drop interface for creating objects on the screen and automates many common programming tasks. Students can focus on writing code to handle animation, responds to events such as user button clicks, and learn simple physics simulation in game development process. Visual Basic is widely used today in a variety of business and academic settings. This learning process will establish the foundation to create mobile app in our more advanced courses. All students will learn how to think logically, evaluate expressions, make decisions, and appreciate what it takes to create the computer programs they use every day.
