advanced C++ programming, game programming & Coding Competitions prep
(for 8th+ Grade)
Walnut Campus: 9/15/13~5/18/14 (Sunday), 9:00 ~11:00 AM (for 30 weeks)
(Students must bring own laptop computers)
This class has triple purposes: 1.) to prepare our students for the most prestigious, worldwide coding competitions; 2.) successful college Computer Science; and 3.) potential career as Computer Software Technologists. The subjects cover Object-Oriented Design and Programming with the Universal Modeling Language (UML), core C++ language, Graphical User Interface (GUI) programming with Qt, and common algorithms and data structures in Computer Science.
Students will receive guidance on how to prepare for two well-known coding competitions offered to pre-college students: International Olympiad of Informatics (iOi) and Microsoft Imagine Cup, by using C++ programming language. iOi focuses on contestant’s math, algorithm and coding skills, while Imagine Cup encourages technological innovation, project/enterprise formation, and teamwork.
Beginning in November, 2013, our students will take part in 6(six) iOi qualification rounds held online over the weekend, offered monthly by USACO until April for USA Open round. The winners will have the opportunity to represent team USA to compete in iOi 2014 final competition, hosted in Taipei, Taiwan.
Students at least 16 years of age as of August 30, 2013 with similar interest will team up to prepare for Microsoft Imagine Cup 2014 competition. The registration will not start until March, but the preparation will begin in January. All students will work with their mentors very closely to come up with the project plan, then implement, propose and submit their final team project to Microsoft Imagine Cup. Winner of Imagine Cup will receive scholarship up to $50,000 from Microsoft.
We will assign mentor to each team when preparing for Imagine Cup, based on team member’s interest and talent. Our mentorship will cover such areas as: Bio-Engineering, Advanced Science, Mobile Gaming, Social Media, Medical Informatics, Information Technology, communication and telecommunications, and entrepreneurship.
本課程傳授進階級C++程式設計，並同時訓練學員參加科技競賽。有三個主要教學目標，一是累積國際型科技競賽參賽能力，二是培養進入一流大學電腦科系之升學實力，三是養成軟體工程師級之設計功力。訓練內容涵蓋C++程式語言、物件導向程式設計 (Object-Oriented Programming)、使用者介面設計(Graphical User Interface, GUI)、程式演算法(Common Algorithms)和資料結構(Data Structures) 深入剖析。所傳授之C++ 語言廣受學術界及高科技界使用，並深深影響許多程式語言的發展，其地位堪稱為電腦語言界之〝教父〞。本課程由資深電腦教師及高科技產業專家所規劃，學員無需具備任何電腦程式設計基礎，但若具備相關概念如Web/HTML, JavaScript, C, Java, Python, Ruby….等，將更容易進入狀況。
從十一月份開始，學生將參加每月一次在網上舉行的USACO科技奧運美國隊選拔賽，爭取代表國家參加2014年在台北舉行之國際科技奧運(iOi)全球總決賽。此外，在2013年8月30日以前滿16歲的學生將依興趣與能力分組，定期接受導師(Mentor)輔導，準備提案(Proposal)參加由微軟公司所主辦的2014年Imagine Cup科技大賽。
